When to use

Use a blockquote to visually separate and emphasise short, meaningful excerpts. They are useful when you want to:

• highlight a quote from a person or publication
• present a key policy statement, legal excerpt or directive
• feature testimonials or feedback in promotional content
• draw attention to a memorable phrase or soundbite in long-form content.

Blockquotes enhance readability by breaking up dense text and helping users follow complex content. If the quoted material is not introduced or attributed in the surrounding text, always include a clear source citation.

When not to use

Avoid using blockquotes to:

• style standard body text — use paragraph formatting instead
• present long excerpts — keep quotations short and focused
• replace references or citations — always provide proper context.
